You dont have to be crazy, but it helps
Day 3 marked the end of the first part of our trip to Hungary. While we arent heading home yet, we did make a change of location and drove 5 hours into Slovenia for some planned sight seeing. Along the way we stopped at the largest lake in Central Europe, which also happens to be in the middle of Hungary, Lake Balaton! We stopped in Siofok, a town right on the shores of that lake that I can best describe as a beach town. While still early in the morning, there were numerious bars and shops open along a colorful street.
We opted for entrance into Plazs, a paid entry/access to the beach along the shoreline. While I was hesitant at first, because paying to go to the beach seems silly to someone who has grown up near a beach, it was worth it. The access was easy, there were places to change, and there was food and drink close at hand. The only odd thing, again coming from someone who has grown up near an ocean, was how shallow the waters were. We were able to walk the severy hundred yards to the buoys without needing to swim. Besides that, the water was wonderful. The people seemed to be cordial (unlike public beaches at home where everyone seems like they are in a bad mood). We were able to spend a couple of hours swimming, then eat some lunch before continuing on our way to Slovenia!
After several more hours of driving we reached out Airbnb for the next few days, and we were completely blown away. This place is easily one of the coolest Airbnb's we have ever stayed at. It is an old country house (build by the hosts great grandfather in the 1800's) that has been renovated and updated without losing its historic charm. The house is still heated with the wood burning stove that is still used for baking and cooking. There it tons of land hike, or simply sit and enjoy. After a short tour we were able to sample some Slovakian cuisine for dinner, and then a small walk around the property to get a good sense of what was available to us.
